The Australasia-Pacific Extension Network (APEN) is the premier professional organisation for extension workers and those interested in extension in the Australasia-Pacific region.
Four hundred Extension Professionals are part of the network and the APEN website is here www.apen.org.au
APEN provides a range of networking and professional development opportunities for Extension Professionals. They have a biennial conference, the latest one was held in September 2017, in Townsville, Queensland.
They produce the Rural Extension and Innovation Systems Journal, the journal has two sections: Research and Practice.
- The Research section targets extension practitioners, researchers and educators and provides them with the findings on research into agricultural and natural resource change management, extension, development and innovation systems issues.
- The Practice section targets extension practitioners, educators, agribusiness managers, business consultants and professional farmers. It promotes innovative ideas, tells stories, shares tools and processes, provides comment on rural extension and innovation system activities that are around helping individuals, industries and communities achieve change.
The also produce a regular newsletter, ExtensionNet that maintains an information flow amongst the network members.
As well as their conference APEN also run events: Workshops, webinars, roadshows and a mentoring program for those interested in Extension.
